Between the vernal and autumnal equinoxes of 2025, I gave away about 100 artworks — most were framed pieces that had been exhibited multiple times, all made over the course of my 50-year career. In exchange, I asked each recipient to live with the work for a while, then send me a digital response to the piece. The response could take any form—a word, a photo, an essay, a drawing, a piece of music, or any other form they chose, but it had to be submitted digitally, either as an email attachment or a link. Recipients also gave me permission to use their responses, in whole or in part, as elements in an ongoing, ever-evolving video piece, Aloft…, which is my response to the responses.
